My Favorite Fashion Desgner is Jason Wu

From doll costumes to presidential gowns, Jason Wu designs them all. One of the reasons that I chose Jason Wu is because he was not very well known until Michelle Obama choose to wear his gown for the Inauguration. Another reason I choose Jason Wu is because he is young, new, and has an interesting background.

Jason Wu’s background is not like most designers. Wu is 26 years old and grew up in Tokyo, Japan. When he was only 9 years old he was learning how to sew, draft patterns and sketch. Wu would stand out side of the wedding stores and sketch the dresses on display in the windows when he was younger. Jason Wu would also use dolls instead of mannequins. At the age of 14 Wu started studying sculpture in Tokyo, Japan. Wu spent his senior year of high school in Paris, where he decided that he wanted to become a fashion designer. Jason Wu trained at the school called Parsons School of Design in New York City.

At the age of 16, Wu started designing dolls similar to Barbie’s except much nicer. The dolls are collection dolls which he designs for Integrity Toys. He has been working for Integrity toys for ten years and has made his way up to be the full time Creative Director for the company. The dolls are sold at FAO Schwarz. The dolls prices run from about $100-$150.

At the age of 26 Jason Wu is the luckiest designer in the world because the First Lady Michelle Obama wore his dress for the 44th Inaugural Ball. Wu did not know that Mrs. Obama was going to wear his dress, but found out like the rest of the world did. Jason Wu was sitting in front of his TV eating pizza when he saw Michelle Obama walk out wearing his white dress with one sleeve. The dress that Wu designed will be on display in the Smithsonian a museum in Washington DC. In 2006 Jason Wu debuted his collection becoming one of the leading new American designers. Wu has received awards such as Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award for women’s Ready to Wear in January 2008.

Jason Wu’s hallmarks would be that he mainly makes skirts and dresses. Wu likes to emphasize the female hourglass. He combines the modern lifestyle with couture details. Jason Wu’s main trademark would be the dress that he designed for Michelle Obama.

The people that buy Jason Wu’s clothing would be mostly women. Wu has not yet created a men’s line. The women that buy Jason Wu’s clothes are typically in the upper class because his clothing is very expensive. The age group that buys his clothes ranges from women in their 30’s tall the way up to their 50’s although, any age group can wear Jason Wu’s designs because there is no distinct age for what he creates.

Jason Wu is a very interesting and young designer. Jason Wu is not very well known but after Michelle Obama wore Wu’s dress he became a little bit more famous. He is a great upcoming designer. I think that in the next five to ten years he will be very famous.
